Devin Stiles' cobia weighed 42.2-pounds before it was gutted. He was fishing aboard the Gentle Winds.
His catch took over first place in the Cobia Division — right up there with the adults.
Capt. Marler said young Devin pulled in a 50-plus pound grouper about a month ago — all by himself.
Devin said he thought the cobia was a shark at first.
“It started running every second,” Devin said.
Capt. Marler said it took him about 20 minutes to get the cobia to the boat.
The youngster said it wasn’t that hard - however, Capt. Marler said “He put his hand in the ice chest afterwards.”

Please have my son’s name corrected to DEVIN STILES, 9 of CRESTVIEW.
He’s been fishing on the Gentle Winds for over 5 years with Capt. Greg Marler and his grandfather, Jim Rice.
Devin has gone through a lot in his short 9 years. Just this past March he was mauled by a pit bull and had to be air flighted to Sacred Heart in P’cola. The dog ripped his entire right bicep muscle out and tore his left ear in half. He has recovered well and only left with only the scars left behind.
My son is a very special child and there is more that lyes beneath the gentle 52 lb frame.
Thank you,
Coni Stiles
